Early childhood reading is essential for a child’s development, laying the foundation for lifelong learning and success. Research consistently shows that reading to young children enhances their language skills, cognitive development, and emotional well-being. It fosters a love for books and learning, which is crucial for academic achievement and personal growth. Recognizing the profound impact of early childhood reading, the local Zeta My Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma has partnered with Axis to launch the “Cuddle Up and Read” initiative. This project aims to promote literacy and a love for reading among young children by providing them with books to…
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Regular screenings, such as mammograms, play a crucial role in catching breast cancer early, when it is most treatable. This can make a significant difference in the lives of many women. In an exciting development, Axis Community Health teamed up with Sutter Health to offer mammograms to Axis patients through a mobile unit. This initiative aimed to make these essential screenings more accessible to our community, especially those who might find it challenging to visit traditional healthcare…

FOOD DISTRIBUTION RETURNS!
Axis is relaunching the food distribution for patients, in partnership with Open Heart Kitchen and MCC-East Bay. Prior to the COVID-19 health emergency, for two years we held a monthly food distribution for our patients that provided fresh fruit and vegetables along with shelf-stable nutritious foods. We ceased operations during the pandemic and instead have referred patients to the many emergency community food resources that were operating in our area. To check availability or add yourself to the waitlist, please call Open Heart Kitchen at 925-580-1616, ext. 504. For more details, click HERE.
COVERED CA: SPECIAL-ENROLLMENT PERIOD DUE TO COVID-19 NOW AVAILABLE
Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19), you can apply now for coverage if you are uninsured and eligible. You can also apply if you didn’t know about the new state penalty or new financial help available. Medi-Cal enrollment continues to be year-round.
What is special enrollment?
People who experience a qualifying life event can newly enroll in a health plan through Covered California even outside the open enrollment period. People who already have a plan through Covered California who experience a qualifying life event can change their coverage or choose a new plan.

HIGHLIGHTING THE TRI-VALLEY NONPROFIT FUND
Axis Community Health is grateful to be a beneficiary of the Tri-Valley Nonprofit Fund which is raising money for safety-net services that are on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, click HERE.
AXIS FOOD DISTRIBUTION POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Due to shelter in place regulations put into place by Alameda County on April 2, our monthly food distribution is postponed until the crisis is over. However, we are working with our community partners to ensure our patients access food elsewhere in our community.

BRAS FOR A CAUSE – MAY 7TH, 2022
After two years of postponement due to COVID-19, Tri-Valley SOCKS will hold its final “Bras for the Cause” Breast Cancer Walk the evening of Saturday, May 7. Axis Community Health has been selected as one of the walk’s beneficiaries. Funds help support breast health education and services for our patients, including prevention, diagnostics and case management. The event is a Tri-Valley tradition, and features creative costumes, fun break stops, and a great time walking. The theme for this final walk is: “It Takes a Village” united together to work towards ending breast cancer by funding a cure, to support those going through treatment, and to spread awareness through education. To learn more or to donate, visit: http://www.trivalleysocks.org/index.html
AXIS SELECTED AS DARCIE KENT VINEYARDS’ VICTORIES ROSE MALBEC FUNDRAISER BENEFICIARY
In the Livermore Valley, we know it’s often a little something extra that makes a wine special. Darcie Kent Vineyards’ Victories Rosé Malbec has that something extra because each bottle sold raises money to support breast cancer health services at Axis. To learn more about the Victories Rosé, click HERE.
This special wine, along with other “give back” wines, is available at the winery’s tasting room. To learn more, visit the Darcie Kent Vineyards website.
